CTM:// The spaces

Two spaces

Meetup evenings happen at The Guild; the workshop at Unit 5 is where we get our hands on things. Both are a few minutes from the city centre.

The main room at The Guild: long oak tables with leather chairs, a wall-mounted screen and a fire.
The Guild The cosy one: a warm room for chatting over a laptop, a gadget or a small project, with screens and whiteboards for showing things. Free tea and coffee, snacks from the tuck shop - ground floor, no stairs.
Inside the unit: a large workbench with a table saw down the middle, shelving with labelled crates, a bench with a mounted enclosure, and a sofa along the wall.
Unit 5 - the workshop Work in progress The hands-on one: an industrial unit fitted with a small selection of tools and equipment - table saw, drills, nuts and bolts, two 3D printers and a resin printer. It's a community effort and still coming together. Bring your own drinks and snacks.

CTM:// The night

What happens

Both spaces run the same slot - every other Wednesday, 6:30 to 8:00 - and the events list says which space a night is at. Turn up when you like, leave when you like; the Guild winds down from about 7:45, and the workshop sometimes runs on a little later.

A Guild evening

  1. No agenda

    Nothing is scheduled and there's nothing to prepare. Pull up a chair and join whatever conversation is going, or sit with a laptop and a brew.

  2. Coffee and a chat

    Unlimited tea and coffee, a kitchen, and a tuck shop. Decent internet, plenty of seats, no stairs on the way in.

  3. The odd talk

    Now and then a member spends a few minutes on something they've built or broken. Watching is optional. So is giving one.

A workshop session

  1. Your build or ours

    Bring whatever you're making and crack on at a bench, or pitch in on whatever group build is going - that's how the benches themselves got made.

  2. Tools on hand

    A small but growing kit: table saw, drills, nuts and bolts, two 3D printers and a resin printer. Bring your own drinks and snacks - there's no kitchen at the unit.

  3. The sensible bit

    Power tools are used only when somebody experienced is there to supervise, and under-18s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times.

And sometimes food: every so often there's pizza or a takeaway on the house, at either space. If you have any dietary requirements, let the host know ahead of time and we'll sort it.

Numbers are capped for health and safety - 20 at The Guild, 5 at the workshop - and you're welcome to bring a guest. It's free, you can cancel any time, and donations are welcome, never expected.
